FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a microdose?
A microdose is taking a psychedelic substance like psilocybe mushrooms at a level under 10% of what would be a standard dose for recreational or spiritual purposes. At this low level, there can be mental and physical benefits without any “high” or psychedelic effects.
A typical dose of psilocybe mushrooms for psychedelic purposes would be between 1000mg and 3000mg of dried mushroom. A microdose is much smaller, between 5% and 10% of an active dose, typically in the range of 50mg to 150mg.
What are the effects of microdoses and high-level doses?
• 100-200mg MICRODOSE: At microdose levels between 100mg and 200mg, psilocybin will produce very little or no noticeable psychedelic effect. At these low doses, there will usually be feelings of reduced anxiety, peacefulness, and increased human connection.
• 400-800mg MID-LEVEL: A mid-level dose between 400mg and 800mg will typically produce noticeable psychedelic effects but low-intensity and manageable. If you are planning to do a high-level dose for the first time, it is recommended to try a mid-level dose first to get acclimated to the experience.
• 1000-2000mg HIGH-LEVEL: A high-level dose between 1000mg and 2000mg will usually produce a strong psychedelic breakthrough effect and is the best range for psychedelic therapy purposes.
• 3000mg+ VERY HIGH: Doses over 3000mg will produce intense psychedelic effects with a higher potential for feelings of fear and anxiety, without increased therapeutic benefit.
These dosages are a guide, and can vary by bodyweight and personal psychology.
What are the benefits of psilocybe microdoses?
Benefits can include reduced anxiety, reduced stress, improvement in sleep patterns, improvement in mood, reduced substance use, reduction in cluster headaches, reduction in migraine headaches, increase in focus, increase in creativity. Some users find that microdoses can provide pain relief.
What are the risks of psilocybe microdoses?
Psilocybe is non-toxic and cannot kill by overdose. Microdoses are generally very safe. Taking a microdose in the evening can disrupt sleep patterns in some users.
Taking too high of a dose of psilocybe can cause powerful feelings. Often positive and healing, but also sometimes feelings of discomfort, increased anxiety, disruption in mood and cognitive impairment. Usually you would need a dose 10x or higher than a microdose to feel these kinds of effects. At very high dosages risks can also include hallucinations, paranoia and rarely a temporary drug-induced psychosis.
A microdose should not cause driving impairment. However, do not drive until you are used to effects of microdosing and your optimal dosage has been determined, and do not drive if feeling impaired or uncomfortable in any way. There are also risks around accidental use by children and pets. Store your capsules in a safe location.
